Born in New York City in 1942, Mr. Nields attended the Dalton School on Manhattan's Upper East Side, graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and majored in political science at Yale University. He went on to law school at the University of Pennsylvania in 1964, from where he graduated in 1967.
